Kaiser strike on Monday to affect some services
Kaiser Permanente’s 4.6 million members in Southern California, including more than 630,000 in San Diego County, are already feeling the effects of an open-ended strike set to start Monday. As the weekend approached, the massive health care provider began notifying members that it is switching some appointments from in-person to virtual and has also “canceled or rescheduled some appointments, elective surgeries and procedures, including non-urgent appointments.” Read more here.
Kaiser Permanente is a healthcare company and has around 630,000 members in San Diego County. In the early weeks of November 2021, the health care provider switched some appointments from in-person to virtual and has also made changes to several elective surgeries and procedures. This is because of an open-ended strike led by the United Nurses Associations of California. The group represents 32,000 health workers and is proposing a two-level wage system that would pay new hires 15 percent less than current employees beginning 2023. The labor shortage in the health care sector brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic will make the proposal difficult to deal with.
